At 5' 4" inches tall and weighing 102 pounds you never would guess that Jan Mielke is a power lifter. She discovered weight training in 1982 and has never drifted away from the activity. Although she has been training for 28 years she just recently started competing again.
In 1983 she competed in her first Bench Press Championship in Wichita, Kansas. She enjoyed the competition, but decided she would rather just train to get stronger. She trained and trained and in March 2010 she decided to compete again. She chose to compete in the Northwest Iowa Bench Press Classic. Although she was very nervous about competing again she made weight, 104 pounds and under class, she did very well. She won her age/weight class. She benched 95 pounds. ( A meet record. )
SInce March she has trained very hard and it has paid off for her. She won the IBPA Southwest Minnesota Bench Press Championships. She competed and won the MN State Raw Bench Press Championships in June. ( She set a new MN State RAW Record ) In July she won the IBPA Strong Woman Competition. In October she won at The Best Of The Midwest Dead Lift and Bench Press Championships ( came home with the Best Female Lifter Award) and then won The IBPA Tournament Of Shadows Halloween Bench and Dead Lift Championships. (Setting new MN State Records in both lifts.)
